Hello MS2

I read the news today, oh boy,
About a lucky man who made the grade.

You can all breathe a deep sigh of relief. I finally cut my hair and got a job. I am now working for MS2 as their Director of UI Design and Experience (DUDE). I don't know exactly what that means, but I know that it is more respectable than the Director of Product Enhancement (DOPE) positions that I saw elsewhere and I trust that I am more qualified for this one than the others. Mostly I'm just glad to have a new business card with which I can enter contests.

Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head.

After barely escaping the six-foot eel named Satan and the girl with the tongue gizmo in Hawaii, I knew that I had to return to work and I am trying to readjust to working life. No more staying up all night watching Scooby-Doo and Beverly Hillbillies reruns. Now, I need to get up early so that I can exercise before work and get home in time for tennis. Also, I need to earn some money to fuel my stock market habit.

I've got to admit it's getting better,
A little better all the time.

MS2 has an excellent management team. Don't short this company. As an indication of this talent, one of the founders remembers my beating him in a tournament a few years ago. Despite, or maybe because of, that, he hired me anyway!

And all the science I don't understand,
It's just my job five days a week.

With thousands of people losing their jobs these days, I'm glad that usability is finally a discriminator for users and that my skill set is in demand from companies as a result.

People say I'm crazy doing what I'm doing.

This is my fourth startup since working at NASA all those years ago. Prior to this, I had worked for three startups, and three public companies since my NASA days. This is the tie-breaking event, and as my tennis buddies will attest, I never lose a tiebreak.

Once in a while you get shown the light, In the strangest of places if you look at it right.

I'm also thrilled to be working in Mountain View again. I look forward to riding my bike to work again, this time in the last of the four compass points from my home. My office features a 7th floor panoramic view of Mountain View that I enjoy. From here, I can see the largest wind tunnel in the world near where I worked at NASA. I can also see the tents of Shoreline Amphitheatre, where I spend many nights each summer.

I can see clearly now the rain is gone.
I can see all obstacles in my way.
Gone are the dark clouds that had me blind.
It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshinin' day.
It's gonna be a bright (bright) bright (bright) sunshinin' day.

Like other places I've worked recently, MS2 features an espresso machine and plenty of snacks. I've already attached speakers to my computer and I'm debating whether I can get away with creating another Comedy Corridor. The Founder in the next cube seems to enjoy the humor, but I may already be pushing my luck with the Grateful Dead bootlegs. I'm also still debating whether I should recreate T H E Z O N E and Group Nap Fridays.

Stay tuned!
