Flat Stanley Visits Funny Uncle Adam in California

Flat Stanley Visits Funny Uncle Adam in California
February 2012

Flat Stanley came out to visit me in California and he was so excited because he had never been out West before. I asked him what he wanted to do for his first visit and he replied that he wanted to go hiking and see some of the beautiful scenery.

Well, we had some great weather so I took him to Pinnacles National Monument.

At Pinnacles, we went on some great hikes.  First we went to the caves to see the bats.  It turned out that there were hibernating, so we didn't get a chance to see them.  We did, however, have a fun time singing the Batman theme song and playing with the flashlights on the cave walls.

We then hiked up past the reservoir to see the peaks.  Flat Stanley was quite the little hiker.  He walked so quickly that I had to run to keep up with him!

On our way out, we happened to see a mule.  Flat Stanley told me how much he likes mules because they are like donkeys that shoot blanks.

We had a very full day of hiking and it was time to head home.  Flat Stanley told me has some very strong environmental sensibilities and insisted that we recycle everything possible before we left Pinnacles.

The next day Flat Stanley had a lot of fun eating unhealthy food like candy, cookies, and other items with partially hydrogenated vegetable oil and simple carbohydrates.  I kept advising him that that kind of diet was not healthy, but he would not listen to me.  Sure enough, after a few hours he had a bad tummy ache and was feeling pretty sluggish.

I didn't like seeing Flat Stanley suffer so I fed him some fiber so he would feel better.  The fiber really did the trick.  The next day...

...Flat Stanley made a seriously huge poop!

"Thanks so much for helping me feel better, Funny Uncle Adam.  You really know a lot about nutrition," he said.

After Flat Stanley felt better, he enjoyed walking around near our house. "Hey Funny Uncle Adam!  Look at that tiny fire hydrant.  What's that for?" Flat Stanley said.

"Well, Flat Stanley, that's for tiny dogs," I replied.

Then Flat Stanley walked around to the backyard. "Hey Funny Uncle Adam!  Look what I found!  It is so sunny in California that the squirrels are putting sunscreen on their nuts!"  That Flat Stanley!  He is so observant and health conscious.

Then Flat Stanley met Funny Uncle Fester Fetus and his eponymous idol, Uncle Fester.

I told Flat Stanley that very soon, Funny Uncle Fester Fetus would be promoted from Fetus to Baby.

Flat Stanley is so smart and inquisitive that he wanted to learn more about this promotion process.

I took him to the doctor and he was all excited to learn about fallopian tubes, the cervix, the placenta and the mucous plug. I asked Flat Stanley if he wanted to learn even more at the breast feeding class, and he told me he's always eager to lend a helping hand for two of his favorite things.

All of this learning really increased Flat Stanley's interest and enthusiasm.  He was so excited that he eagerly examined the car seat to ensure its safety.

He then went on to help erect a banner for the baby shower.

Flat Stanley also created this wonderful centerpiece that could be carefully deconstructed into a bunch of useful doo dads after the baby's arrival.

Later, Flat Stanley arranged all of the presents so that they would be easier to stack.

Flat Stanley was so excited at the baby shower that he helped remove the wrapping paper from the presents.

"I really had a great time in California, Funny Uncle Adam.  I can't wait to visit again," Flat Stanley said.

Ačiū for playing.
