Just a few comments about the Dead shows before I post the setlists. I told my boss I needed to work at home on Friday because I was seeing a Dead show that night, and it takes me all day to prepare. She does not even flinch anymore when I say things like that. I have succeeded in desensitizing her!
Collectively, the shows contained some of my favorite songs by the group. I also enjoyed their cover songs like Not Fade Away and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. (I am never going to hear the Beatles sing LSD, although I guess Elton is a possibility.). The Gyoto Monks Chanting was a unique experience and I enjoyed entertaining the thought that they were swinging free under their robes! Some of the songs the band played are not yet on albums, but I am starting to get to know them from concerts. These include Liberty and Eternity.
I missed the beginning of Alabama Getaway on Friday because it took over an hour to get inside the gates. Not enough people can show up at 5 on a school day to get in in time for the show at 7 so the line gets pretty long by 6:30. I got there earlier the subsequent nights and did not have the same problem.
Saturday morning, still tired from the previous night, I had my first singles tennis loss in 6 months. I was playing my partner for the following weekend's tournament and he was surprised to beat me so handily. I promised him I would not see a Grateful Dead concert the night before the tournament. (I do not even know where they are playing that night.)
Before Sunday's show, I went hiking around Shoreline Park. I was amazed that concert goers were already showing up 4+ hours before showtime. Must have been a big sale on ferret burgers in the parking lot! On my way back to the car to pick up some warm clothes before the concert, I stopped by Rengstorff House for a brief tour. This is an old historical house that was moved to the park from about a mile down the road. The tour guide was an older gentleman, dressed in period costume. When asked, he said the period was 1870. I told him he did not look a day over 1860! I sensed that I was stealing his thunder when I asked him if the house was haunted so I kept my mouth shut from then on. Since I was tired, had toured the house on a previous occasion, and I wanted to get some food before the show, I thanked him and left the tour early.
I was good and tired before the show but I managed to survive. I had a ball throwing tortillas, marshmellows, and balloons and the activity helped keep me awake.
I have been so busy lately, that I did not pick up Saturday's mail, nor go dumpster diving for the TV page until Monday! Close to a week later, I am still trying to recover from lost sleep. Being busy with tennis (3 matches and 1 Board Meeting) for the 4 nights following the shows has only made catching up more difficult. I have been so tired, I have not had the energy to use the gym at work. The best I could do was pull up a chair and watch the aerobics girls!
Without further delay, here are the setlists. Enjoy.
